Current Threat Industry Impacted: ANY
On 12 November, QuoINT detected another widespread malspam wave distributing the Emotet trojan. This is the second wave of a campaign that started on 5 November and heavily targeted
the U.S., U.K, and Germany. Reportedly, a hospital in Germany had to shut down more than 450 computers due to this attack.
Reported Incidents Industry Impacted: ANY
A small Internet Service Provider (ISP) named MainOne Cable Company caused a BGP routing incident affecting Google services after it updated its routing path through Nigerian, China and
Russia. Although Google and MainOne representatives provided comments that the routing event was inadvertent, suspicions exist of a malicious intent.
Vulnerabilities Industry Impacted: ANY
Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday release includes fixes for 62 vulnerabilities across multiple products. Of the vulnerabilities, 27 are remotely exploitable and 12 received a critical rating. The release
addresses a zero-day vulnerability reported as exploited in the wild.
CRYPTOCURRENCY
The German holding company Bitcoin Group SE, which operates Bitcoin Deutschland AG, acquired the investment bank Tremmel Wertpapierhandelsbank.
The total market capitalization reached a low of EUR 154 billion on 15 November, a decline of 19.8 percent from the end of the previous week.
GEOPOLITICS
The Russian Ministry of Justice said its sovereign immunity protects Russia from the investigation into the alleged Russian government-sponsored cyberattack on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in 2016.
The credit rating agency Moody’s will reportedly begin incorporating cyber risks into their credit ratings for states, companies, and organizations.
France’s President Macron launched the Paris Call for Trust and Security in Cyberspace on 12 November, which calls for cooperation among signatory states, private companies and civil society
organizations to create international norms on cyber security.
