Cyber
Reported Incidents Popular social news aggregation platform, Reddit.com, announced that unknown threat actors compromised several employee accounts at its cloud and source code hosting providers between 14 June and 18 June. The attack was reportedly via SMS intercept.
Reportedly, two of Germany’s largest public service broadcasters were targeted by the Russian threat actor group Sandworm in June. Due to the limited information available for this attack, QuoINT cannot confirm attribution at this time.
Cyber Threats
Researchers identified a supply chain within a supply chain attack where threat actors were attempting to spread cryptomining malware to a large amount of users via an unnamed PDF editor.
Cryptocurrency
The cryptocurrency market significantly declined over the week, after a bullish run in the previous week, as the total market capitalization fell by 8.7 percent.
The ICO project KICKICO reported that USD 7.7 million worth of its KICK tokens were stolen in a security breach.
Geopolitics
President Trump’s and President Rouhani’s administrations both denied a possible meeting after President Trump initially said he would meet the Iranian President without any preconditions.
The U.S. National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) released its 2018 Foreign Economic Espionage in Cyberspace report, which identifies China, Russia and Iran as main threat actors.
