On 17 January, Microsoft released an advisory notifying users of a zero-day remote code execution vulnerability existing in Internet Explorer and exploited in limited targeted attacks. Successful exploitation could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user. QuoINT released a Warning when Microsoft disclosed the issue on 17 January.

On 17 January, the Turkish hacktivism group Anka Neferler Tim claimed responsibility for cyberattacks targeting the websites of several Greek governmental bodies. A day later, in retaliation, the Greek hacktivism group Anonymous Greece claimed to have targeted at least ten Turkish government websites.
